For the past few weeks, we've been tendering for some external help to develop the Conservation Plan that will form the basis of our project. We're really pleased to have appointed Luczak Associates to the role. Maria Luczak and her team have a great deal of experience in supporting HLF projects in the region - most recently doing a similar piece of work for Memorial Park in Fleetwood, which was praised by HLF for the extent to which it involved people in shaping its conservation goals. They've worked on other Mawson/Leverhulme collaborations in the past, and showed a strong understanding of how they worked together on Rivington.
This appointment is really going to kick our development process up a gear, and we want to use this process to drive more involvement of people in shaping our project. We'll initially be involving the RTG Community Forum in the process, and then, once we've generated some headline conservation objectives we want to hold some subject-specific discussions in order to inform the detail of our plan.
The Conservation Plan is a really important phase of work, as it will give us essential advice on the significance of the heritage of the Terraced Gardens, which will be cricual when the time comes to start making those harsh decisions over where we will target our investment. We think that Maria is ideally suited to working with us on this process, and we look forward to being able to get this discussion out and public as soon as we reasonably can.
